Do you have Rubber Bridge, Novice Games, Weekly Duplicate and Tournaments?
- Yes there is Rubber Bridge - Unit 499 is oriented towards Duplicate Contract Bridge and membership in the ACBL. The ACBL issues masterpoints and maintains a database of all players with master point rankings. We have one non-ACBL (no master points awarded) supervised Rubber Bridge game at Pleasant Hill, The Bridge Center, Saturday mornings, at 9:30am. Non-ACBL Rubber Bridge games are frequently held at Community Centers and Senior Centers. The Yahoo search engine on our Bridge Links page was used to search for "Walnut Creek Bridge Rubber". A Walnut Creek web page describing a SIR group that hosts a monthly Rubber Bridge game at Carls Junior at Oak Grove and Ygnacio Valley Road on the 4th Thursday of the month was found. We also have an ACBL sanctioned SIRS game at The Brige Center on Thursday. You might try search engines to find other Rubber Bridge games in the area.
- We have Intermediate & Novice Duplicate Bridge Games and Lessons - There are several novice games, restricted to 49 or 99 master points or less. All of the duplicate tournaments in our unit have two or three flights, where you are ranked against people with comparable master points. We have several excellent bridge teachers in our unit, displayed on our Learning web page. Carol Griffin, one our unit's bridge teachers has her own web site. The Learning web page also has information about restricted masterpoint games.
- Our main emphasis is weekly Duplicate Bridge Games - You can't beat our unit for a great selection of weekly ACBL Duplicate Bridge games and special events that pay premium masterpoint awards. This web site's basic navigation is designed to let you find weekly games and results, fast. I recommend you bookmark our competition web page as it has links to all bridge club web sites and a link to every weekly tournament in Unit 499. We have a schedule of Unit Games and monthly calendar of special events.
- There are ACBL Tournaments - The ACBL web site is a magnificent resource that can answer most Duplicate Bridge questions. A Sectional and Regional Calendar shows past results and a future tournament calendar. An North American Bridge Championships section has future and past NABC tournament information. The District 21 Home Page shows upcoming sectionals and regionals in our district. Michael Nistler, the District 21 Webmaster has been uploading detailed sectional results that you can only see on the District 21 Web Site by clicking on "Results:". The Western Conference web site has a calendar of tournaments that is used in the monthly Forum Newsletter. On our web site, we have links to the past several years of our Unit 499 Sectional Tournaments.
How come the web site is so complicated?
- There is a lot going on in Unit 499. The basic home page layout is designed for players to easily find upcoming special events, news and game results. There are also descriptions of intermediate and novice (I/N) games farther down the home page for newer players, listings for bridge teachers and a "Join ACBL" link. A competition web page summarizes all games in the unit as well as ways to find out where you stand in the masterpoint races. A Board of Directors link is listed at the bottom of the home page that contains minutes and various BOD documents. We have an outstanding Mentor Program that conducts sessions 9:30am sessions every other Saturday.
